The Coaches

Coach Rodney

Hometown: Kingston, Jamaica

Rodney was born in Jamaica and raised in LA and in Birmingham, Alabama. He's played basketball on every level from high school to professionally overseas, and joined LifeHoops because he felt that it was his God-given purpose. He loves mentoring youth and helping others find empowerment in life. He feels that his purpose in life is not to win, but to grow and share. As the first coach alongside Coach Speedy, he has been with us since LifeHoops was founded.

Rodney King

Coach Speedy

Coach Speedy attended and played basketball at Surry Community College before moving to Charlotte in 2006. For the past 12 years, he has a wealth of experience working with youth, primarily in mental health and sports. When not working, he enjoys spending time with his kids, playing chess and professional networking. He also is petrified of cats...He currently works as lead coach at our Johnston YMCA location. As LifeSports’ first coach, Coach Speedy has been with us since we were founded!

Coach Josh

Hometown: LaPorte, IN

Josh moved to Charlotte in 2013 to get his Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from UNC Charlotte. Before accepting the LifeHoops coaching position, he worked in the fitness industry, and still uses those skills in the Red Ventures’ fitness center as a class instructor.
